Spoken Nerd – Magical Powers

During the early months of the pandemic I took solace in work, bicycling, and playing hackiesack. In this season of life I developed a deeper love for hip hop than ever before. My friend Ross (kidDEAD) sent me some tracks that he was working on with a producer named Nathan Zensen. When I heard these tracks, I knew that I wanted to work with him. We linked up on a cold winter day and had coffee outside of a vegan bakehouse in my neighborhood and talked for over an hour. He understood my vision as his love and understanding of hip hop was deep as well.
Magical Powers is an album about youth and renewed passion. As a child, I was diagnosed with an overactive imagination. The scary stories that I was writing during class drew the attention of my teachers. They were always calling my mom to the school to tell her about it. My Mom tells this story about a time I stood up in the middle of my first-grade class and proclaimed that I possessed magical powers. I am not certain that I have such powers, but I believe that life has a certain magic that we can tap into if we pay attention and live our lives with intention.
