Following the success of their first volume, Norsk SP-Forum returns with “South of Oslo Vol 2,” diving deeper into the intersection of jazzy beats, lo-fi boom bap, and hip-hop culture. This ambitious 25-track collection showcases the collective’s evolution, featuring international collaborations with renowned artists Ken Ring (Sweden), Pats Nichols (Norway), and ZEPS (USA). The album maintains the collective’s commitment to hardware-based production, with every track crafted exclusively on hardware samplers. This approach pays homage to the golden era of hip-hop while pushing the boundaries of what’s possible with these iconic instruments. Curated once again by veteran beatmaker Jøgge (Jørgen Ottesen), Vol 2 represents a significant leap forward for the collective. The album seamlessly blends instrumental beats with vocal features, creating a dynamic listening experience that bridges the gap between traditional boom bap and contemporary beat culture. Standout tracks include the Ken Ring feature “Risin to the top,” ZEPS’ appearances on “No cap” and “Bobby from Brooklyn,” and Pats Nichols’ contribution to “Flowerpot.” These collaborations add new dimensions to Norsk SP-Forum’s signature sound while maintaining the raw, authentic feel that defined their first volume. The collective’s core members – Lax22, Beggs n Acon, Sumtn, Doydank, Jøgge, Vesle, and Clark F – each bring their unique flavors to the project. From jazzy samples to hard-hitting drums, the production showcases their growing mastery of the SP workflow. “South of Oslo Vol 2” drops digitally and physically in January 2025, continuing the collective’s mission to preserve and evolve the art of hardware-based beat making. The album stands as a testament to Norway’s thriving beat scene and its connections to the global hip-hop community.
