Greenlights Music The Chicago conglomeration known as GREENLIGHTS Music releases its fourth full length project called “Solid Gold Gravy” May 27th of 2023. Like previous albums including “A Beautiful Mood”, “Solid Gold Gravy” dabbles between using samples and live instrumentation. The album itself is Hip Hop. Samples, sounds, and live musicians make up the production by emcee RP. As much as it is Hip Hop “Solid Gold Gravy” is also a vibe, not to be put on food. It has a bit of everything for everyone. Greenlights Music tries to speak to every hip hop fan and music enthusiast. GREENLIGHTS Music is like a combination of Wu Tang, De La Soul, The Roots, and the Pharcyde! Saxophonist and piano player Anthony Gomez had a large part in co-writing band songs like “One Life” , “To The DL ”, and “Momentary Lapse”. RB on guitar and Jake Samson on bass shine predominantly in the songs “Feet Don’t Fail Me” and “Sky Was On Fire”. All of the instrumentalists are members of the Greenlights Music band that creates a unique and beautiful musical experience live. The group’s main vocalist/soul singer Willow Wells is featured on quite a few tracks and her presence is always felt through strong chorus’s, deep lyrics, and her beautiful and at times haunting vocal range (Fantastic Dragon). As far as the emcees go, all of the usual suspects return with some new faces. Emcee RP still handles all the production on “Solid Gold Gravy” and lays his rhythmically syncopated and sometimes speedy lyrics on many of the tracks, but also laying back on a few songs. The duo of BadWOLFF is back and both CasaGrown and Amanu individually add their witty and thought provoking flavor to the album Solid Gold Gravy (Zero Hour, Bird Brains). “The peoples rapper” Bob Rok returns as a force (Listen for the Rooster). Bob’s style is distinct, strong, and brilliant. As a writer he is top notch. As a rapper he has gained the respects of being one of Chicago’s best emcees. As a part time stand up comedian it was natural to comically riff with his new character Jerry Blowkiss (Greenlights Music’s Manager). Abitight is probably the main and most familiar emcee on “Solid Gold Gravy”. Long time counterpart of RP back from their days with former Chicago band Abstract Giants, Abitight still hones in on his vocal abilities, writing, and delivery to create beautiful verses and heavy concepts (Platters Of Gold/House of Pain/Sky Was On Fire). Another strong addition to the album was the emcee Doc Wattson. Doc has been representing Chicago Hip Hop for some time and brings his witty, fresh, word play and lyrical talents to GREENLIGHTS Music. Recently Rp and Doc started collaborating on a couple songs and next thing they knew he was a major contributor to Solid Gold Gravy (Zero Hour/Nice Slacks/Greenlights Means). The song “Formal” features Doc Wattson, Bob Rok, and one of Chicago’s finest emcees Kastaway. All cuts were done by Chicago Hip Hop legend Alo.
