So. This album is mostly songs complaining about rap, and rappers, and rappers doing their raps (which is the worst combination of all, if you ask me). But I like to think we handled it fairly artfully and creatively and interestingly. These songs were written at a time when I was involved more-than-usual¹ with the Adelaide hip-hop scene, and its seething multitude of contributors and participants. Bearing witness to its gritty inner workings, the gut-churning scrapings of its ill-shapen cogs.² And stuff. Not gonna lie, this was not a great time for my mental well-being, and all my various frustrations manifested in this album’s lyrics. I grew to resent the fact that I was so often moved to write songs about rap, and rappers… There are an infinite amount of better topics than that. Rap songs about rap always feel somewhat redundant; you’re describing an artform, which itself tends to describe itself, using said artform. Like a painting of a painting of a painting, eventually it’s all frame and very little subject. This caused a kind of feedback loop, with that resentment being fed back into the system and resulting in more angsty rap-centric writings. There’s admittedly not a great deal of poetry and whimsy in these songs, not as much as I’d like, at least (that will come in spades on the next releases, watch this space, more on those later), but there is certainly a lot of feeling, and honest sentiment, albeit often masked in braggadocious hyperbole. So, all that aside, I’m genuinely excited for you all to hear it. There are some seriously solid tracks on there. Songs that we’re proud to have made together. Songs that are better to exist than not. I shot the main image for the album cover on a Sigma 24mm F1.4 lens, and I like how it looks. That’s not really important but it might be interesting information for somebody out there. ¹ “usual” meaning “zero amount”, and “more than” meaning “more than”. ² Watching its cast of wretched, bloated ego-beasts thrash and wallow amid steaming piles of their own filth and hubris, surrounded by dirty flocks of talentless underlings, all emanating hysterical screeches and cackles laced with bitter desperation. credits released February 7, 2025 All songs written by Luke Vexx & Jack Vaul unless noted otherwise.
