Club Family opened in 1996 and has been one of Tokyo’s most prolific underground hip-hop bar/lounge/live houses in the country since. Underground artists from Nujabes to Black Milk to Bop Alloy to Blu have rocked at Family, and I personally spent a lot of time there during my college years and beyond. True to its name, whenever I walk into Family I feel at home. Some of my best nights happened at this place. ANACF is the instrumental version of one of my favorite tracks off the 2nd Bop Alloy album, and Substantial captured the spot’s essence perfectly on the original track.
