Vice beats + RPK – Writes Of Passage

Writes Of Passage is a short story in musical form, following Bristol based artists Vice beats and RPK on a journey through challenges, creative endeavours, and learnings, leading to a place of higher understanding and creative sanctuary. This album sees a more experimental and darker sound to what people may have come to expect from Vice beats. A number of the instrumentals started life as part of a score for a play exploring the Windrush generation. Expect string swells, punchy drums and dark basslines combined with Boombap sonics to create a refreshingly different project. Vice beats, an established UK producer, created the only ocial UK based J Dilla tribute to date (Dilla: The Timeless Tribute), and continues to collaborate with the Yancey family. He has collaborated with the likes of Blu, Akil Tha MC (Jurassic 5), Dizzy Dustin (Ugly Duckling) and many more. His music spans Hip Hop and Soul, and includes TV production placements in 80+ countries. He’s received support from DJ Koco, Chuck D, DJ Premier, KRS One, Gilles Peterson, DJ Eclipse and many more, plus featuring in various editorial playlists, alongside worldwide placements in all Adidas stores and the Universal Hip-Hop Museum in NY. RPK is an MC hailing from rural West Midlands, now residing in Bristol. Having shared stages with the likes of Flowdacia, Coosie and Trippy Picture, he became part of Bristol based crew Verbal Highz, playing various festivals, gigs and became a regular face in the cypher. In 2022 RPK independently released his debut ‘Demolushion EP’, collaborating with emcees, producers and graffti artists including Chillman, G00se, Sleven and Habitus. Since this point he’s collaborated with the super talented Field Trip, Phoebe Bear and Finn Kinnara, before teaming up with Vice beats on their collaborative album ‘Writes of Passage’.
